Dijo que será utilizada no solo para las comunicaciones entre personas y empresas, sino también para cuestiones más sensibles como los sistemas militares. “Si no actuamos ahora, la influencia y el control de la tecnología por parte de China no solamente socavará las libertades de sus propios ciudadanos, sino las de los ciudadanos de todo el mundo”, alertó. No es la primera vez que los Estados Unidos alertan sobre los eventuales peligros de permitir el avance de la tecnología China en la Argentina, canalizada a través de la poderosa Huawei, controlada por un Estado acusado de realizar espionaje internacional a través de las telecomunicaciones. La preocupación se explica en que que las compañías chinas nunca son verdaderamente independientes del Partido Comunista Chino. Por las leyes internas, el régimen puede forzar a las empresas a entregar información a sus servicios de inteligencia. En los últimos días de 2019, la Embajada de los EEUU en Buenos Aires ya había hecho hincapié en la importancia que tendrá la red 5G en la vida de todos los ciudadanos. “Los proveedores de telecomunicaciones de China pueden ser una amenaza para la seguridad nacional de los países”, plantearon. En esa ocasión, citaron declaraciones de Robert Strayer, un diplomático especializado en temas cibernéticos del Departamento de Estado, quien en un artículo titulado “¿Por qué a los Estados Unidos le preocupa el 5G?”, aseguró: “Con todos estos servicios que dependen de las redes 5G, lo que está en juego para salvaguardar estas redes vitales no podría ser mayor”. “Las empresas chinas podrían recibir órdenes de socavar la seguridad de la red, robar información personal o propiedad intelectual, llevar a cabo espionaje, interrumpir servicios críticos o realizar ataques cibernéticos”, desarrolló. Y explicó: “A medida que los países de todo el mundo actualizan sus sistemas de comunicaciones a la tecnología 5G, les estamos instando a adoptar un marco de seguridad basado en el riesgo. Un elemento importante de este enfoque de seguridad basado en el riesgo es una evaluación cuidadosa de los vendedores de sistemas y programas informáticos y … el grado en que los vendedores están sujetos al control de un gobierno extranjero”. Si bien dos compañías ya estuvieron haciendo pruebas, el nuevo gobierno argentino todavía no dio indicios sobre qué camino adoptará en la implementación de las nuevas redes. El primer desafío será habilitar y licitar el espectro para el desarrollo de la tecnología 5G, algo que podría ocurrir durante el segundo semestre de este año o recién partir del 2021. Las tecnologías 5G constituirán la columna vertebral de la infraestructura en redes eléctricas, tuberías de agua, vehículos autónomos y telemedicina. A finales del 2019, Brasil comunicó que licitará la infraestructura 5G en 2020 y que convocará a China.
