El “hombre árbol” pidió ser amputado: “No soporto más el dolor”
Un bangladesí conocido como “el hombre-árbol”, por sus manos y sus pies llenos de impresionantes verrugas en forma de corteza, anunció este lunes que deseaba que le amputaran las manos para calmar su insoportable dolor.
Abul Bajandar, de 28 años, sufre epidermodisplasia verruciforme, una rarísima enfermedad genética. Su caso se conoció en todo el mundo durante su primer ingreso en el hospital en Bangladés en 2016.
Los médicos de un hospital universitario de Daca lo declararon entonces curado. Sin embargo, sufrió varias recaídas y en total fue sometido a 25 operaciones quirúrgicas. Desde enero está de nuevo ingresado en un hospital de la capital.
“Ya no soporto el dolor. No puedo dormir por la noche. He pedido a los médicos que me corten las manos para tener al menos un respiro”, declaró a la AFP
Una procedimiento que apoya su madre, Amina Bibi: “Al menos será liberado del dolor. Es un infierno”, confesó.
Abul Bajandar también tiene verrugas en los pies, pero éstas están menos extendidas. Dijo que había pedido ser tratado en el extranjero, pero no dispone del dinero para cubrir los gastos.
Samanta Lal Sena, cirujana plástica jefa del hospital de Daca, donde el paciente es tratado gratuitamente, indicó que una comisión de siete médicos se reunirá el martes para discutir su caso.
“Ha dado su opinión personal. Pero nosotros decidiremos la mejor solución para él”, señaló.
La clínica trató igualmente en 2017 a una niña bangladesí que sufría la misma enfermedad.
Aunque sus excrecencias fueron retiradas, estas volvieron a aparecer después en mayor número. Su familia puso fin al tratamiento y se la llevó de regreso a su pueblo
