El misterio que desconcierta a los científicos brasileños: una ballena apareció muerta en medio del Amazonas
Yace muerta a decenas de kilómetros de su hábitat natural. Ni los científicos -y menos los pobladores- entienden qué hace allí esa ballena, tan lejos del mar, su hogar. Tiene 8 metros de longitud y cuatro de ancho. Y apareció en medio del Río Amazonas. En plena jungla brasileña.
La ballena apareció el pasado viernes a unos 15 metros del margen del río y desde entonces personal especializado intenta determinar cómo fue que el mamífero más grande de la Tierra llegó hasta allí sin mostrar heridas. El animal fue hallado luego de que se viera gran cantidad de buitres volando alrededor suyo.
Diez biólogos de la ONG Bicho D’Água llegaron hasta el lugar -situado en la Isla de Marajó, en el estado de Belén– y se sorprendieron al encontrar semejante ejemplar acuático en medio de la selva.
Sus especialistas especulan que la ballena ingresó por la desembocadura del Amazonasy como causa de una gran marea quedó atrapada en medio de la jungla cuando el agua bajó.
Normalmente, las ballenas solo aparecen en la cuenca del río durante los meses de julio y agosto, cuando el agua salada penetra en los ríos.Se estima que la ballena tenía aproximadamente un año de edad, y se teoriza que el animal perdió a su madre durante una migración. También creen -aún no están los resultados- que el mamífero murió como consecuencia de la injesta de plásticos, y que el agua la transportó hacia su destino final. Aquel que sorprendió a propios y extraños en la reserva natural en medio de la jungla.
