Las enfermedades cardiovasculares (ECV) son la primera causa de muerte en todo el mundo, siendo responsables de más de 17 millones de muertes anuales y representan casi la mitad de las 36 millones de muertes por enfermedades no transmisibles.
A pesar de las medidas implementadas, se calcula que si continúa esta frecuencia, el número de muertes por ECV aumentaría a 23,6 millones para el 2030.
En el marco del Día Mundial del Corazón, que se celebró ayer, la Sociedad Argentina de Cardiología (SAC) y la Fundación Cardiológica Argentina destacaron el compromiso de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) de reducir un 25% la mortalidad prematura por enfermedades cardiovasculares para el año 2025.
“Tomar medidas preventivas de concientización, control y continuidad en los tratamientos resulta crucial para llegar a este objetivo y sostenerlo a largo plazo en nuestro país”, aseguró el cardiólogo Patricio Martínez, presidente de la Fundación de Estudios para la Salud y la Seguridad Social (FESS).
Según Martínez, la última Encuesta Nacional de Factores de Riesgo (ENFR) demostró que el tabaquismo ha disminuido un 2% y la tasa de hipertensos se ha sostenido: “lo que resulta en un escenario prometedor para continuar trabajando”, afirmó el referente de FESS.
Las enfermedades cardiovasculares son producto fundamentalmente de la arterosclerosis, “un depósito e infiltración de sustancias grasas en la capa íntima de las paredes de las arterias”.
El origen de este síndrome es multifactorial, pero se ha avanzado ampliamente en su prevención al identificar de forma mensurable los llamados “factores de riesgos cardiovasculares”.
La mayor evidencia científica demuestra que la reducción de la mortalidad por enfermedad cardiovascular es consecuencia del óptimo control de esos factores de riesgo.
Sin embargo, existe una gran cantidad de pacientes que presentan eventos cardiovasculares aún cuando los clásicos índices están “controlados”.
Por ello, estratificar el riesgo del paciente es una herramienta necesaria para diseñar el tratamiento más apropiado de cada uno de ellos, en lugar de tratar en forma independiente cada factor de riesgo.
